Deployed from April 10 to April 22, 2023, the campaign to collect nylon, create a new life cycle with the message “Let’s collect, for a green earth” organized by sustainable handbag brand Limloop was successful. More than 200kg of nylon was collected and ready to be recycled, double the initial expected number of 100kg. The campaign was carried out with the purpose of celebrating Earth Day (April 22), contributing to spreading the message of environmental protection, raising awareness about the impact of single-use nylon on the community and especially is the young generation.
In Vietnam, every year, about 1.8 million tons of plastic waste is released into the environment – including more than 30 billion nylon bags. On average, each household in Vietnam uses about 1 kg of nylon bags per month. More than 80% of them are thrown away after single use with very little treatment. At the same time, according to statistics from the Vietnam Plastics Association, the amount of plastic waste and nylon bags in our country accounts for about 8% – 12% of household solid waste. However, only about 11% – 12% of plastic waste and nylon bags are processed and recycled – the remainder is mainly buried, burned and discharged into the environment.
